That is what the news just reported “many people have said that they are foregoing food and necessities this year so that they can purchase most wanted Christmas gifts”. Why do so many people feel that they are owed a gift, and why are so many people forced into guilt if they don’t buy those people those gifts? I mean it’s a bad economy for one thing. I just don’t get it geez.

If people personally choose to make a sacrifice to purchase a gift for someone, that is their business. That is really not a new thing. Read the story “The Gift of the Magi” by O Henry, for instance.

No one is forced into guilt. If a person gets all beligerent over not getting a gift, or a particular gift, I think they are showing their a**, and it’s no reflection on the person who did not purchase a gift. The very word “gift” means something freely given, NOT an obligation.

Unfortunately some people seem to treat Christmas like a popularity contest or an excuse to milk others into buying them stuff. That doesn’t mean that YOU have to buy into it.

Sounds like you have a good heart and a real grasp on holiday spirit, please don’t let the behavior of others squash that in you. Merry Christmas.

for a 9 year old, most likely a pair of shoes, a small tv or maybe a ipod.
for a 14 year old, most definantly clothes!

Whenever my daughter is invited to birthday parties, I usually by a very special gift for the birthday person. I put some thought into the gifts that I buy.
