Looking for ideas for family gifts for Christmas. Help?

Question by Barefoot: Looking for ideas for family gifts for Christmas. Help?
I recently moved across the country from my family, and cannot spend Christmas with them this year. I was thinking I could get everyone individual gifts (I have 5 brothers and sisters, some of whom are married with children ages 1-15). Anyway, I thought it might be easier to buy a ‘family gift’ for the whole family instead, but need ideas on what to do.

I can always do food baskets, but my sisters and sis in laws are great bakers and probably don’t need the extra goodies…I want something that would be fun for the whole family, even the husbands.

Any ideas? Thanks!

$ 400 is a lot of money!!! With that you can buy them a weekend get away somewhere….Depending on where you live, and what mini vacation areas are up to 5 hrs away. Maybe a nice spot for New Years Eve for them to go to for the night.

We gave the library new couches and tables, replacing the old ones and donating them. The year before they had our school mascot nicely done on the floor of our cafe [their legacy]. Some ideas brought up were: An art piece, a flower garden, a tv, new sound equipment, etc. I hope this helps!

I’m writing a story. My main character has a friend who can’t take part in Halloween and she wants to bring him something the next day that has to do with it. I don’t want it to be candy though. I was thinking she could bring him a little pumpkin or a mask. What do you think?

i think its cool your writing a story. I’m “trying” to write one of my own. Personally I would have her bring something foreign and traditional. i know u don’t want to add candy but a sugar skull would be cool. its not scary its technically not affiliated with “Halloween” and it can open up a lot of different dialogue and interaction. or simply brings him food and an apple which was a Celtic tradition (where Halloween originated) also good for dialogue. if this is an important part of you story you want to have the characters have plenty of interaction and dialogue while also making it informative (makes this particular encounter more memorable for the readers) but at the end you must make the story yours and write what you want, it doesn’t matter what others think…good luck!!

Rather than use baskets you could use small plastic witches caldrons or plastic jackolantern trick or treat carriers to put the items in. Shrink rap is a nice touch to any basket, I think it give it a professional look. Finish it off with pretty black and gold, black and orange or black and purple ribbon.

My son will be turning two (lucky me) March 31, and we had planned on having his birthday on March 29, but had to postpone until April 5 because of pink eye. So should we allow him to open all his gifts on his birthday or should we allow him to open one on the 31st, and the rest on April 5th. We are not going to have a cake or anything until his birthday party.

1. Open 1 or 2 on birthday; save the rest for party.

2. Save those from people who will be at party & open only those from people who won’t be at party.

Make it a little small celebration when he does open his gifts, perhaps over dessert around the family dinner table.
